Casselman
The Casselman is a freestone trout stream that flows northward through
historic Grantsville, MD into Pennsylvania. As it winds it’s way through
beautiful Amish farmland, anglers will appreciate it’s streamside flora
and fauna. It’s an excellent river for beginners trying to catch their
first trout on a fly while still providing seasoned fisherman with a
challenge. Its lower stream gradient provides much easier wading than
the other streams and rivers in Garrett County. It gets excellent
insect hatches starting in early April that continue all spring giving
anglers great dry fly fishing. Good numbers of 12-14 inch rainbow and
brown trout can be expected along with the occasional trophy. It’s
managed as a delayed harvest fishery, so it is catch and release from
October-mid June when the water warms.
